DESCRIPTION:

A 17-year-old girl climbed over a fence to a private plane and started one of the engines, police say, before crashing into an aircraft maintenance building at the Fresno Yosemite Airport.

TRANSCRIPT:

Reporter: Crashed into an aircraft maintenance building at Fresno Yosemite Airport, a severely damaged Kingair 200. Police say this video captures the moment a 17-year-old girl tried to steal the plane after climbing over a fence and starting one of the engines but the plane never got off the ground crashing into the building, instead. On-scene officer: The engine is completely ripped off and still smoking. Reporter: Police arrested the teenager after they arrived to find her uninjured, still on the cockpit and wearing a pilot's headset. 'The female appeared to be disoriented and was uncooperative with police when she was taken into custody.' Reporter: It involved a private plane. No commercial aircraft or passengers were affected. Planes are often left unlocked overnight and don't require keys to start. In August 2018, an airport ground worker in Seattle stole a Horizon Air turboprop taking it on a joyride over puget sound. 'Just a broken guy...got a few screws loose, I guess.' Reporter: Richard Russel died when he crashed the plane into an island. Investigators concluded that he intentionally took his own life. In Fresno tonight, police say there's no other indication terrorism was a motive in a teenager's attempt to steal a plane.
