After spending 12 days on the International Space Station, Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa ended his space journey by landing on the steppe of Kazakhstan on December 20, 2021. The fashion tycoon and his assistant became the first private Japanese citizens to visit space in the last 30 years. Their journey marked Russia¡¯s return to space tourism after a decade-long pause that saw the rise of competition from the United States. Maezawa¡¯s space flight is also a practice run for his planned trip around the moon with Elon Musk's SpaceX in 2023.
