Description:

Solar fashion and vertical solar farms are the future with this new material that doesn't need direct sunlight to make electricity.

Transcription:

This invention makes renewable energy from rotting vegetables. It has already won the inventor an international design award. And it¡¯s all thanks to his grandmother. Carvey Ehren Maigue: My grandmother is usually fond of extracting different juices and oils from different crops and vegetables. Then I realized that maybe I can apply the same method. There are two stages. So first, ultraviolent light is converted into visible light, then visible light is converted to electricity. So for the first stage, that is where we use the food waste, or the crop waste, because certain crops have that particle that allows us to convert UV into visible light. AuREUS turns any surface into a vertical solar energy farm. Carvey Ehren Maigue: AuREUS is actually the technology that would allow different surfaces and devices to have the ability to capture ultraviolet light and convert it into electricity. Half a square metre provides metre provides electricity to charge 5 smartphones. Carvey hopes to turn the project into a start-up soon .An d provide important help to farmers in the Philippines whose crops are often damaged by extreme weather events. By winning the award he hopes to inspire other students in the Philippines. Carvey Ehren Maigue: We may not be that blessed or developed compared to others, but there¡¯s a global stage that¡¯s waiting for us.

Questions:

1. How did Carvey Ehren Maigue win an international design award?

2. What is AuREUS?

3. From whom did Carvey copy the method? Explain how.
