Mara Montalbano: It's a historic attraction that people from all over the world travel to see The ancient Citadel of Machu Picchu in Peru but tourists have found themselves stuck in the town that leads to the site.

Jonathan Garcia: I've been here for 13 days. today I plan to leave but we're waiting for a humanitarian train to take us to the city of Oyanta.

Mara Montalbano: The Peruvian government has closed Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail indefinitely due to protests in the country which stem from the expulsion of President Pedro Castillo. He was ousted and imprisoned after he tried to dissolve congress But the people who support him are now revolting against current president Dinana Boyarde. The situation is also affecting other services like transportation and food deliveries. Stranded tourists seem to be taking it all in stride.

Angelica Avalos: We feel at home here we also suffer the same social injustices. We understand that we're not tourists who wonder why everything is closed. We have also experienced it firsthand in our own country.

Mara Montalbano: it sounds like a little civil unrest isn't enough to ruin their vacation.
