Parts
of a Volcano

Description:

A volcano is a
mountain with a magma chamber underground that supplies melted rock. During an
eruption, magma flows out as lava and ash, changing the landscape and sometimes
affecting the weather. Some volcanoes have secondary vents on their sides,
causing smaller eruptions.

Hey kids, in
today's video we will be learning about the parts of a volcano.

Are you ready?
Let's begin.

A volcano is a
mountain that forms when hot melted rock called magma escapes from deep inside
the earth.

When a volcano
erupts, magma comes out as lava along with ash and gases.

Volcanoes can
create new land, change landscapes, and even affect the weather around the
world.

Let's learn
about the parts of a volcano.

Magma chamber.

Deep
underground, there's a big pocket of melted rock called the magma chamber.

This is where
magma, the hot liquid rock, stays before it erupts.

Think of it
like a giant pot of boiling soup under the Earth's surface.

Main vent.

When the
volcano is ready to erupt, the magma moves upward through a tunnel called the
main vent. This vent is like a straw that carries the magma from deep inside
the earth all the way to the top of the volcano.

Crater.

At the top of
the volcano, there's a B-shaped opening called the crater.

This is where
the magma comes out during an eruption. Magma that reaches the surface is now
called lava.

You might also
see smoke, ash, and gases bursting out of the crater.

Lava flow.

When the lava
spills out of the crater, it runs down the sides of the volcano. That¡¯s called
lava flow.

As it moves, it
burns and melts everything in its path.

But when it
cools down, it hardens and forms new land.

Ash cloud.

During a big
eruption, volcanoes can send ash clouds high into the sky.

These clouds
are made of tiny rock and dust particles that can travel far, sometimes
hundreds of kilometers away.

Secondary vent.

Some volcanoes
have smaller cracks on the sides called secondary vents.

Lava can escape
through these two, forming mini volcanoes or smaller eruptions on the mountain
sides.

Now, here are
fun facts about volcanoes.

The word
volcano comes from Vulcan, the Roman god of fire.

There are over
1,500 active volcanoes on Earth today. That means they can still erupt.

And that is all
for today's video. I hope you enjoyed learning about the parts of a volcano
today.

Take care now.
Bye-bye.
